Richard Hopper, Ph.D.Executive Vice President - Latin America
Richard was educated to be a diplomat (language studies plus M.A. and Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies), but instead chose a corporate career, beginning as a Senior Financial Analyst at Exxon in New York. Immediately prior to joining Legacy, Richard was the CFO of two multibillion dollar oil pipeline companies, Ocensa in Colombia and OCP in Ecuador, and of the largest wireless telecommunications provider in Colombia, Comcel. Since 2002, Richard has been a Visiting Professor of International Economics at the EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia. Richard is known for his record of excellence in corporate finance, strategic planning, organizational development and general management; for his stand that people are an organization's most valuable resource, and for his commitment to the possibility of personal and organizational transformation. Richard is fluent in English, Spanish and German. He lives in Medellin, Colombia, with his wife, María Cristina Restrepo, a Colombian writer. Richard has four grown children, four granddaughters and a grandson.
